WELCOME TO VSAS

The Volcano School of Arts & Sciences (VSAS) is located in the rural town of Volcano, Hawaiʻi, adjacent to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. VSAS serves students in PreKindergarten through 10th grade including 53% from low-income families and 44% Native Hawaiian students. We serve primarily the communities in Upper Puna and Kaʻū (Mt. View to Ocean View) though our students live in communities spanning a total of 2,500 square miles across 6 districts on the Island of Hawaiʻi. 

 

The VSAS philosophy is that education is more meaningful to children when presented in an environment that is familiar, that relates to their home life, and that allows for discovery-based experiential learning.

 

Our mission is to provide an environment in which students are:

Closure & Support Information

  • All in-person activities (e.g. 1:1 meetings with teachers) are canceled until further notice.

  • ​The WiFi Hub at Cooper Center is closed.

  • The Old Volcano Road Campus is closed for cleaning and disinfection. 

  • Keakealani Campus is closed to visitors. Parents wishing to pick-up materials will need to schedule an appointment and remain in their car. Call 808-204-4020 or email studentsupport@volcanoschool.net to schedule an appointment. 

  • Need help with schoolwork? Call 808-204-4060 (toll free 888-585-5951) or email studentsupport@volcanoschool.net during school hours (8 am - 2:15 pm) on days when there is school.
